Nan Xing Catholic Church and the Priest of the Coast Mountains

In the 1950s, A Swiss priest, Hilber Jakob chose Nan Xing Village as the first location to preach and build a church. Indigenous people have trouble speaking Mandarin at that time. Despite the language barrier, the local chieftain warmly embraced Hilber. In Hilber’s later life, he got cancer. He gave up the chance for better treatment and chose to stay with the Paiwan people until the end of his life. Eventually, he was buried alongside the chieftain. Discover the story behind this 60-year-old bond that was formed through faith, and listen to the fascinating tales of this place.
